7 TCESeptember /October 2021or years, the South Florida equestrian scene has been known to host many of the world’s top athletes both two and four-legged alike during the winter season. Taking the best of what the European horse show circuit has to oer, Wellington and the surrounding horse-centric areas have become the hotbed for the industry’s most elite and lux clientele to compete, train and live. In a community where the mentality is always “the bigger, the better,” a new breed of performance facility is setting the bar at a new level, quite literally. The greater Ft. Lauderdale, Miami area recently welcomed Aaron Goldsmith’s latest vision, Next Level Performance Center, to their A-list of dream barns. “This is a new kind of innovative training, boarding, and sales facility redening the meaning of equestrian luxury. Designed with the serious athlete in mind, and in the image of America’s superior European equestrian counterparts, we provide a boutique environment to a select number of both dressage and show jumping clientele. With the main state-of-the-art facility located in the historically equestrian town of Davie, I was inspired to build Next Level Performance Center from the ground up. What really sets our operation apart from our competition is that we oer a secondary location in Wellington just steps away from the Winter Equestrian Festival and the Global Dressage Festival while still providing a quieter training paradise in Davie,” stated Goldsmith.Next Level Performance Center Redenes Equestrian Luxury in South FloridaF

Page 8

8TCETheCompetitiveEquestrian.comCentrally located between Ft. Lauderdale and Miami, Next Level Performance Center is turning the heads of old-school equestrians in Wellington down to the up-and-coming equestrian scene growing in their backyard. Next Level uniquely provides the best of what it means to be an equestrian in South Florida. Reaping the benets of world-class shopping and dining as well as some of the world’s ritziest selection of real-estate in the wealthy suburbs and city-center of Miami, Next Level Performance Center provides the only equestrian facility and service quality of its kind and caliber to suit the lifestyle of these equestrians. From top-of-the-line Roewer & Rueb stalls equipped with camera monitoring as well as Nelson automatic waterers monitoring each horse’s water consumption to a private rehabilitation center and lab that includes electromagnetic therapy, hydrotherapy, dry treadmill, and indoor and outdoor walkers, the masterminds behind Next Level performance put horse care under their microscope to enhance even the most minute aspects to t their near-impossible standards. With the introduction of a budding sales program, Next Level Performance is already showcasing its serious competitive nature on a national scale. Former Helgstrand Dressage trainer and top German dressage competitor, Madeleine Bendfeldt, currently pilots the United States’ number one ranked six-year-old mare, Sonata MF (Sir Donnerhall–EM Duet MF, Don Principe). “I have been in the industry for almost 20 years, mainly in jumping and I am just beginning with dressage, but thank goodness I have such a great team behind me,” Goldsmith explained. “The rst day that I saw Sonata, my gut was telling me that this horse was amazing. I am very thankful for the breeder, Maryanna Haymon, and I am proud that we can showcase such a nice horse that was bred in the United States, and Caroline Roman of course did an amazing job in developing her”Sonata MF and Madeleine Bendfeldt. Page 9

9 TCESeptember /October 2021Named the 2017 USDF Champion 2-year-old lly and the Reserve Champion Filly at the prestigious Dressage at Devon, Sonata MF most recently added the title of Markel/USEF Six-Year-Old Dressage National Champion at the Young & Developing Horse Dressage National Championship to her laundry list of accomplishments, as well as being honored with the award for the highest-scoring US-bred horse in the division. “I came two months ago from Germany to work with Sonata for Aaron, and I am so thankful for Caroline Roman’s work. She did an amazing job educating and training her. I am very lucky to have the privilege to show Sonata. I am super satised with the test at the young horse championships. Of course, you always have something that you’d like to do better, but she was spectacular, and I had a nice feeling, so I am super happy. The judges said that she has a bright future, and I agree with that.”Following their most recent success, Sonata MF is just the rst of several hand-selected prospects to grace the rosters of the nation’s top competitions in both dressage and show jumping. With young jumper prospects imminently arriving, Goldsmith has also recruited the highly regarded Brazilian show jumper and World Equestrian Games athlete, Celso Luis Camargo Ariani to oversee their jumping training. “Some of the young prospects are on planes shipping over and some of them are already here, but in September they will all be at our facility, and I am very condent that Next Level Performance Center will have competitors in nearly every class,” stated Goldsmith. “As for Sonata, I truly believe we will see her next year at the World Championship doing the Seven-Year-Olds.”As the newest member of the South Florida Equestrian scene, Next Level Performance Center is achieving new heights of excellence, proving that a superiorly elite equestrian oasis lies a little further south than previously imagined. Page 171

173 TCESeptember /October 2021Decades before American independence was declared, a quaint cabin was constructed on a picturesque piece of land in the hills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. What is now known as Rutledge Farm, located in Middleburg, Virginia, the property’s original house dates all the way back to 1740. Following a rich colonial past, beloved Washington D.C. developer and philanthropist Herman Greenberg took over Rutledge Farm in 1984 with a vision for the future. The historical architecture of Rutledge Farm was preserved by Greenberg, while also breathing new life into it. He restored the main house, evoking the feeling of stepping into the 1820s upon entering. In the basement, the overhead beams that support the main oor above were restored from the original log cabin that was on the property in 1740. Greenberg commissioned Smith-Blackburn Architects and Morgan Wheelock Landscape Architects to bring Rutledge Farm into the 20th century, designing state-of-the-art barns and renovating the residences, grounds, and paddocks. In fact, Rutledge Farm was only Smith-Blackburn Architects’ second project since its inception. In addition to the property’s charm, Rutledge Farm has played host to a number of the Greenberg family’s champion horses. The 1993 Belmont Stakes winner, Colonial Aair, was a product of Rutledge Farm. Colonial Aair was ridden by Julie Krone, who remains the only woman to win a Triple Crown race. He bred Sur La Tete, one of the leading money earners in steeplechase history. To support the local Equine Research Institute, the Greenberg family purchased a foal they dubbed Researcher for just $2,500, who eventually went on to win more than one million dollars in his career, as well as raced the fastest Equibase speed rating in North American racing history. To this day, Researcher still holds the record. EQ REAL ESTATE | RUTLEDGE FARMRutledge Farm’s Expansive Equestrian Estate Honors History in Middleburg, Virginia Rutledge Farm

After Greenberg passed away in 2010, his son Aleco Bravo-Greenberg wanted to honor his legacy by carrying out his vision for Rutledge Farm. He took over Rutledge Farm, aiming to both maintain and modernize his family’s beloved property. Following in his father’s footsteps, he continued to make modern updates while preserving the long-rooted history of the farm. Bravo-Greenberg restored the polo eld, added an all-weather outdoor riding arena and derby eld, completely redid the indoor riding arena and rehabbed all of the barns.Today, Rutledge Farm is celebrated as one of the premiere equestrian facilities in Virginia. With a passion for accessible education in the sport, Bravo-Greenberg established the Rutledge Farm Sessions clinic series in 2017. The series invites riders of all levels to train with Olympic medalists and international champions in show jumping, dressage, eventing, equitation and hunter jumper disciplines, creating otherwise inaccessible opportunities for those looking to learn from the leading athletes and trainers in the industry. Nicknamed the ‘godfather’ of the clinic series, Bravo-Greenberg’s longtime friend, Olympic show jumping gold medalist Will Simpson, kicked o the inaugural clinic in August of 2017. Other notable clinicians over the years have included McLain Ward, Debbie McDonald, Ali Brock, Phillip Dutton, Stacia Klein Madden and Louise Serio, to name a few. Bravo-Greenberg has worked diligently to develop Rutledge Farm into a premiere sporthorse facility, while honoring the traditional architecture with contemporary updates. As he steps into the next phase of his life with his wife Sandra and son Maverick Preston James, Bravo-Greenberg proudly oers Rutledge Farm for sale.
